Roof Waterproofing Sheets- EN 13707 & EN 13956

Systems of Assessment and Verification of Constancy of Performance (AVCP) to be applied to roof waterproofing sheets used in waterproofing of roofs are determined according to the following table in accordance with the definitions given in EN 13707 for bituminous membranes and EN 13956 for plastic/rubber based membraness.

*: Products/materials for which a clearly identifiable stage in the production process results in an improvement of the reaction to fire classification (e.g. an addition of fire retardants or a limiting of organic material).
**: Products/materials not covered by footnote (*).

b) Because all bitumen sheets have requirements for roof sheets in buildings, all products covered by this standard come under attestation of conformity system 2+. In case of additional requirements on reaction to fire and/or external fire performance for these characteristics and the related parameters, depending on the classes attestation of conformity systems 1, 3 or 4 shall additional applied.

When the footnote "b" given in the table above is examined, where systems of assessment and verification of constancy of performance (AVCP) are determined; it turns out that the AVCP system of waterproofing membranes is system 1 or 2+. On the other hand; these products having a reaction to fire class E or F must be evaluated within the system 2+, since they do not contribute to fire safety.

For A1-E class waterproofing membranes, exposure to external fire and reaction to fire tests must be carried out by notified laboratories. On the other hand, no fire test is required for class F products.

Tasks

Content of the task

Tasks under the responsibility of the manufacturer

Factory product control (FPC)

Parameters related to Essential Characteristics of Table ZA.1 relevant fort he intended use, which are declared

Further testing of samples taken at factory according to the prescribed test plan

Essential Characteristics of Table ZA.1 relevant for the intended use, which are declared, except external fire performance

Initial type testing

Classification
- Reaction to fire (A1, A2, B, C)**, D, E
- external fire performance for products that require testing

Tasks under responsibility of a notified laboratory

Initial type testing

External fire performance of Table ZA.1

Tasks under responsibility of a notified body

Initial Inspection of factory and FPC

Parameters related to reaction to fire and watertightness of Table ZA.1

Continuous surveillance, assessment and approval of FPC

Parameters related to reaction to fire and watertightness of Table ZA.1

Tests Required to be made by Notified Laboratories: For initial type tests, the certification body's control activities are limited to verifying the water impermeability properties of products included in system 2+. In such products, the watertightness feature and factory production control must be performed by or under the responsibility of the certification body, and reaction to fire tests must be carried out by a notified test laboratory under the responsibility of the producer. The producer is responsible for the application of tests for other features given in the ZA.1 table of the product standard.
